    It’s tough to convince an Apple fan to buy the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 rather than the Apple iPad 2. This is understandable given the fine quality and attention to detail that Apple gives to its product line. The fact that there is minimal difference between the two devices when it comes to the hardware or specifications makes the choice tougher. They are also identically priced. But if you want to move out of that comfort zone and keep the emotions out of the equation the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has many things going in its favor and will be the logical choice.

    Android gives much more freedom to its applications than iOS does and this is not necessarily bad because it makes the Apple devices look and work in a standard fashion. But the crux of the matter is that for a knowledgeable user Android allows much more customization than Apple does. You will be able to personalize the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to a level which is not possible on the Apple iPad 2.

    Either of these devices is feature rich and will do a good job when it comes to the requirements of an average person. They both have easy access to social networking sites, browsers, and email. Both iOS and Android have tons of Apps in their respective markets. You will be able to download excellent applications like maps, news, encyclopedia, translation utilities, etc.

    Going purely by their future outlook, the Android is likely to take the lead considering that it works on many devices unlike the iOS which is proprietary. Android also works well with third party technologies like Flash and will be more receptive to such technologies in the future.

    A feature by feature comparison of the two will show the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in better light. The processors are of the same capability but here is a list of areas where the Galaxy has an edge over its rival:

    The Galaxy comes with 1GB RAM while the Apple comes with 500 MB.

    The display quality is the same, but the Galaxy comes with a slightly bigger display of 10.1 inches (diagonal) compared to the 9.7 inches of the Apple.

    The Galaxy has superior cameras with 2 Megapixel front and 3 Megapixel rear cameras. The Apple in contrast has a 0.3 Megapixel front camera and a 1 Megapixel rear camera.

    The Galaxy has two speakers giving you a stereo effect; the Apple has only one speaker which makes the sound mono.

    The Galaxy has GPS, while the Apple does not have it on all its models.

    The Galaxy is slightly larger owing to its larger display, but is lighter weighing 19.09 oz when compared to the Apple iPad 2 which weighs 21.30 oz.

    One of the neater features of the Samsung Galaxy is the way in which it handles the App icons on the home screens. The Galaxy does hold 35 icons which is higher than the 25 that Apple holds on the home screen, but what makes the Galaxy superior is how it handles these icons when you turn the device from portrait to landscape mode. The Galaxy adjusts the spacing making the icons appear in exactly the same layout which means that your icons are in the same relative positions in either modes and are easier to find. The Apple on the other hand keeps the icon spacing same as in portrait mode. So in landscape you may have to scroll to find your App. The Apple allows you to arrange the icons in App folders but if you download an App which provides the folder functionality, you can have even better functionality on the Galaxy.

    Overall it makes great sense to buy Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 though die hard Apple fans may disagree. Either of these devices will be great to have. The differences may not seem very significant at the moment to everyone, but after a couple of years you may find that the Galaxy does not appear as outdated as the Apple. If you are comfortable with technology you will admire the freedom that you get with the Galaxy’s Android OS, but if you are buying it for someone who is a novice with technology maybe the Apple will not be such a bad choice after all.
